Its Official. NNPC confirms the drilling of Oil well in Nasarawa to commence in March 2023

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), in keeping with its ongoing oil exploration efforts in the nation’s inland basins, plans to begin drilling the nation’s first oil well in Nasarawa State in March 2023.

NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, announced the oil discovery in the state and plans to drill in the 1st quarter of the year in a visit from the Governor of the state, Abdullahi Sule with prominent Nassarawa indigenes  He said the company was committed to oil and gas exploration in the state, adding that NNPC would also continue to engage with the state government on oil-related matters.

Kyari, in a statement on Friday, January 13 by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd., Garbadeen Muhammed, said the results of exploratory activities confirmed the presence of substantial hydrocarbon resources in the state. The NNPC chief, calling for prompt action on the project, said, “This work must be done very fast because the whole world is walking away from fossil fuel due to energy transition.

He stated that “The earlier you go to the market, the better for you, otherwise, 10 years from now, no one will agree to put money in petroleum business except it comes from your cash flow.  He described community support and a conducive environment as key to a successful operation in the area in order to avoid the experience of the Niger Delta.

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nassarawa state lauded NNPC in his remarks for its contribution to the development of Nasarawa state, particularly in the area of oil exploration.

Beyond the north, the Anambra basin was listed as another area where the NNPC is striving to find more oil.
